U.S. Ambassador Alexander Arvizu: judicial reform is an urgent priority, but no need to be done overnight. All actors, including civil society, have to be listened
July 24, 2014, TIRANA – U.S. Ambassador Alexander Arvizu recognizes that judicial reform is an urgent priority for Albania but says it can not be done overnight. After meeting with three members of the Democratic Party today at noon at the headquarters of Democrats, Arvizu said that the U.S. shares the same view with the EU, OSCE; comprehensive approach should be adopted for this reform, in consultation with the Venice Commission, OSCE EURALIUS and with High Council of Justice as part of the consultations process.
“I met with democrats MPs, Eduard Halimi, Flamur Noka and Oerd Bylykbashi . The main focus has been on judicial reform. We as U.S. agree that judicial reform is a priority, including the HJC which often appears in the news, and which has to be part of this discussion. We seeking inclusion off all parts into this process, said the US ambassador.
In recent months, the Executive and Justice Institutions are colliding while he first seeks to reform the justice system (one of the weak points in terms of the level of corruption and accountability in international relations) and the second is showing resistance to comply with the reform needs.
Center for Public Information Issues has been advocating the need for reforms into the judiciary system since years now and has been actively involved into both exposing corruption and boosting legislative process.
